SLIP YOKE WITH A CV DRIVE SHAFT (See
Below)
For a daily driver and off road use, the SLIP YOKE WITH CV drive
shaft is used. This kit does not require any changes to the vehicle. The drive
shaft looks like yours and except for the custom yoke that is bolted to a CV at
the transfer case side. The neat thing about our drive shaft is that it performs
just like the most expensive one, yet it is the least expensive, and installs
just like the stock drive shaft. The contents of the kit
is the CV drive shaft with a custom yoke bolted to it complete and precision
balanced.
The SLIP WITH CV works on any vehicle on lifts up to 10" for Blazer and
7" on jeeps where operating angle at the
transfer case is less than 20 degrees for half ton and 25
degrees for one ton, and 35 degrees for the PERFormace 45
degree CV. Look in the HIGH
ANGLE DRIVE SHAFTS section. Or, if you want to eliminate your slip yoke with a
fixed yoke to the SHORT SHAFT KITS
and the DRIVE SHAFT SYE section.
With all CVs, your job is to shim the pinion to be a straight line with the drive
shaft within 3 degrees.
The Blazer rear drive shaft can be made stock, slip with a CV drive
shaft with the standard 1310 CV
or a heavy duty one ton 1350 CV. This drive shaft will remove vibrations
caused by a lift. The heavy duty one ton CV is used on high horse power torque
vehicles and angles between 20-25 degrees.
Two Methods Are
Available - Slip with cv drive shaft, and a Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE)
not to get confused with the HD short shaft kit. We make a slip yoke
eliminator that does just that nothing else. In other words it is a slip
yoke that you bolt down to the output shaft, hence it eliminates the
slip.
FIRST Method
Even thought this drive shaft is used
a lot for Blazers and Ford and Jeeps, it can be used for any vehicles.
This drive shaft can be made for any vehicle, even a car. As a
matter of fact some of the older caddys and other vehicles had slip yoke
with CV drive shafts.
The slip yoke function is retained and a CV
incorporated onto the shaft. The slip yoke bolts to the CV and looks
like the picture below with only the slip yoke being of the type you
need. For 77 and up Chevy
Blazers, Jeep Wranglers, Tahoes, Suburbans, Pichups. They look about the same except the
Jeep uses 27 spline yokes while Chevy uses 32 spline and Fords use
mostly 31 splines etc . THIS
METHOD IS WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS SECTION.
BLAZER JEEP
ALL OTHERS LOOK JUST LIKE YOUR STOCK
EXCEPT FOR THE CUSTOM YOKE AND CV
SECOND MEHOD
This kit provides a flange or yoke that you bolt to the
output shaft. Then a drive shaft is also provide that bolts to the
flange or yoke provided.

When
do I need a CV?
When the
angle of a single u-joint exceeds 5-7 degrees. You will feel a ujoint
vibrate at 5 degrees and the higher the angle the higher the vibrations.
Vibrations means wear. A CV reduces the angle per u-joint by half thus
reducing the vibrations. Note that a CV operating at a higher angle than
stock will not last as long. Hence, more maintenance is required with
custom drive shafts.
When
do I need a high angle. Rules of thumb.
FRONT or
REAR: Lifts 4 inches and higher or when the angle at the transfer
case output exceeds 12-14 degrees or when the vehicle is built for lots of
articulation where the CV may bind at full extension. We have seen 4
inch lifts bind usually because the lift winds up to be 6 inches
instead. So high angle is good to have.
Ok, I want to order one. Look at how
do I measure? Then look under the vehicle and determine the
mesurement base on the diagram provided.
Example of what you should know:
- What is your vehicle make/model/year?
- What is your Transfer case? (look for a tag or ask
your mechanic)
- What are your differentials? (Dana44, Dana60, Corp
10, 12, 14. again your Mechanic.)
- What are the working lengths? (see:
How to measure)
- How high is your lift?
- Do you want a high angle CV?
You will be asked the above questions which will
identify the slip yoke that we must use.
The following 4 options covers slip
with CV drive shafts with high angle for 1310 half ton
and 1350 one ton. At check-out, you will be asked for year model, amount
of lift or angle of
drive shaft, and transfer case model (231j, 241c etc.) If you know enter
them or we will call and help to determine what it is.. In most case we
know what the transfer case is from experience.
Note, we can do these drive shafts with the SLIP
YOKE WITH CV DRIVE SHAFTS WITH NO
HIGH ANGLE
